Water Security

Since FY 2000, the City of Peoria has invested approximately $450 million in capital improvements to transform and position the City’s "Water Portfolio" so that groundwater now makes up only 5% of its water source. These prudent and wise investment decisions by the current and previous City Councils have resulted in a guaranteed 100-year city water supply designed to responsibly continue Peoria’s population growth and economic strength.

Peoria has a long history of exceptional stewardship in developing its water supply. The City Council adopted the Principles of Sound Water Management plan in November 2007, which serves as a foundational policy guide for the city's water future.

Peoria continues to invest heavily in reclaimed water, underground storage and other infrastructure to safeguard the community from drought and shortage conditions.

Water

Utilities provided by the city include water, wastewater and solid waste services. The city operates 3 water treatment plants which enables the city to further reduce its dependence on groundwater and comply with state law regarding conversion to renewable surface water for most of our water supply.

Additionally, the city's 3 water reclamation facilities will not only serve our residents for many years to come, but allows reclaimed water generated by the plants to provide an additional water resource that can be used for landscape irrigation or groundwater recharge credits.
